A few steps behind the Monument to the Ox we find the inevitable giant bench (after all, we are in the Langhe, aren’t we?). The one in Carru is, however, unique because it is firmly planted in the centre of town and it has a golden, almost regal, hue. It faces onto nature while still maintaining a close connection with the houses, the garden, the asphalt, the urban. More bourgeois than bucolic.

DISCOVER Carrù, where the “Ox’s monument” reigns

On coming back down one heads directly towards the entrance of the Parish Church dedicated to the “Assumption of Mary”. A medieval gem which flourished and was enriched in the Baroque style in the 1500s and 1600s. Carrù is also the birthplace of President Luigi Einaudi and has never forgotten him (although he latersettled in Dogliani). On the road running through the town stands the monument in his honour: a “simplified lectern” in corten steel with his image, right in front of the house where he was born.
